MUSICAL THEATRE CLASSES
Musical Theatre Tots with Siree Franks
Thursday at 1:45-2:30 begins February 23rd, 2012
Ages 5-under- This is a weekly class with no casting where  students learn some of their favorite music and dances from the session’s chosen musical.  The class concludes with a performance including costumes, lights and set.  We might even see these cute tots in a cameo appearance in our older shows!
Musical Theatre Primary with Krista Kim
Monday from 3:00-5:00 and Tuesday from 3:00-5:00- Session begins Jan. 9th, 2012
Ages 6-12- A weekly musical theatre class where students learn all the songs, scenes and dances from the session’s chosen musical.  All students audition for specific roles but everyone signed up gets a great part!  The class concludes with a full production including costumes, lights, set, hair and makeup!

3 LEVELS OF IMPROVISATION
Improvisation Station with Rick Kuhlman
Friday 3:00-4:30 begins 3/02-5/04
Ages:  12 and up
A starter class for students who want to devise their own stories and perform! We will focus on the incorporation of the fundamentals of acting, as students explore their imagination while inventing new worlds, giving voice to their own stories and creating strong characters. Using theatre games, improv games and acting exercises, this class is perfect for beginning performers.

Improvisation Journey with Rick Kuhlman
Friday from 4:30-6:00 Begins 3/02-5/04
Ages:  12 and up
Thinking fast on your feet, but really not ’thinking’ but TRUSTING your instincts! Improvisation is all about having fun, and learning how to re-act, and play out characters through scenes each week. Develop skills focused on character development, physical movement and vocal characterization while building silly stories and theatrical exercises.  Share with friends and family in a 30 minute showing in our final showing.

Improvisation Destination with Rick Kuhlman
Tuesday at 7:00-8:30 begins 2/28-5/01
Ages:  12 and up
An advanced class designed to build confidence, help you make stronger character choices, trust your instincts and work well as an ensemble. Learn to look for the clever and smart choices. Good for experienced performers, with a monthly performance open to the community to have the student understand the important addition of an audience.

OTHER ACTING/WRITING CLASSES

Fundamentals of the Actor’s Toolbox with Rick Kuhlman
Tuesday 5:00-6:30 begins 2/28-5/1
Ages:  12 and up
Develop your understanding of the craft of acting by experiencing a variety of acting styles and methods. Using short scenes from contemporary literature as inspiration to creativity, students will learn to make strong character choices, work with objectives and relationships in the creation of original scenes in this fun creative class.

Princes, Paupers, Wizards and Fools with Rick Kuhlman
Days scheduled: Wednesdays 3pm to 4:30pm -9 weeks- Begins 2/29-5/2
Ages:  12 and up
Do you want to explore the adventure of an exciting play? This class will focus on acting both comedy and drama, using Tall Tales from around the World!  Students will learn through movement, rhythm and rhyme, character games, improvisation, story circles, and imagination exercises how to gain confidence in expressing their own ideas and transferring that energy into a theatrical production. Students learn to share the stage with others with theatre games and activities, while learning basic theatre terminology, exploring character development, active listening, problem-solving and ensemble technique.
This class works as a team towards one goal: an program that promises several characters for each actor to perform in a final show at the end of the term.

One Hour Reduced Shakespeare for Beginners with Rick Kuhlman
Saturdays 12pm to 1:30 begins 3/3-5/5
Ages:  12 and up
The students will take a One-Hour edited script version of a Shakespeare classic, such as Hamlet, MacBeth, 12th Night or Comedy of Errors, and present a finished performance at the term’s end. All of Shakespeare’s poetry, scenes, story and characters, but with a fraction of the lines. Students will gain insight and appreciation into these classic plays, speak the actual famous lines, all in a Jr. format.

Finding Your Voice In A Song with Betsy
Wednesday, 6:30-9:30pm, March 14 – April 25
$395/8 weeks
Betsy will help you select two songs that light your fire, melt your heart, or tickle your funny bone.  Whatever you choose, she will teach you how to approach them like a monologue put to music.  This approach, combined with basic vocal and stage techniques, is the key to a moving and effective performance.  You will then be prepared to do just that in two main stage showcases at the end of this eight week session.  For more information contact Betsy Randle at bettyism@dishmail.net or call 818-207-1586.  Upon request and with a commitment, payments will be accepted in monthly installments.

Teen Writing Group with Deb Norton
Thursdays 6-8pm, Ongoing
Presentations: Twice yearly
Membership: $200 every 12 weeks
With a maximum of 8 members, this ongoing group affords each participant an opportunity to receive personal feedback and instruction at every meeting. Teens will find a safe, yet rigorous environment in which to develop and deepen writing. No grades, no red pens and no tests. All genres of writing and all levels of skill are welcome.
• Learn to give and receive constructive feedback.
• Develop your voice and personal style.
• Gain a deeper understanding of the elements of story.
• Find support for your schoolwork or an outlet for your personal projects.
• Silence the internal critical chatter that takes the joy out of writing.
Members of this group will have an opportunity to share writing in quarterly showcases on the Phoenix’s mainstage.

MOMMY AND ME MUSIC 

Tot Music with Siree Franks
Thursdays at 11:30- 12:15 (10 week session begins January 26th)
Mixed Age

Mixed-age classes are designed for families with babies, toddlers and/or preschoolers.  We sing, dance and get silly while demonstrating rhythm and melody through modeling and fun, adult-child interaction.  Children are able to observe and respond spontaneously to the musical environment at their own pace and developmental level without performance pressure.

0-9 months

Baby classes are designed for families with infants and babies under 9 months of age.  Adult modeling is the key factor in these classes so come prepared to sing and dance with and for your little one!  Babies learn through watching and listening to the world around them.  In our class…we will create a world of music for them to experience with the adults they love!
